The South Baltimore Gateway neighborhoods, composed of Cherry Hill, Lakeland, Mount Winans, Saint Paul, and Westport, are graced with picturesque views of Downtown Baltimore, the Baltimore Harbor, and the city’s evolving waterfront. Located in Southern Baltimore, these communities live close to I-95 and two of the city’s major sport venues, M&T Bank Stadium and Camden Yards. Residents enjoy the charming sights of visiting cruise ships, easy access to the Middle Branch waterfront, and a variety of outdoor and aquatic activities offered throughout the surrounding parks and shoreline.
For much of Baltimore’s history, these neighborhoods developed as distinct residential communities shaped by their proximity to industry, transportation routes, and the waterfront. In the mid-1800s, the area attracted a variety of homeowners and amusement destinations due to its suburban character and open land. Lakeland saw a dramatic increase in home construction in the early 1900s, while Cherry Hill experienced significant growth following the return of World War II veterans. Mount Winans, Saint Paul, and Westport each added to the area’s character through generations of working families and longstanding neighborhood institutions. Today, the area offers multiple housing types for potential homeowners, including rowhomes, single-family detached homes, and apartments.
South Baltimore Gateway’s diverse neighborhoods are comprised of close-knit residents who feel a profound pride in their communities. This affordable area offers access to shopping, green spaces, schools, and a variety of religious institutions. Sitting in an advantageous location just across the harbor, nearby redevelopment and residential investment continue to bring new energy, investment, and businesses into the surrounding neighborhoods. Above all, South Baltimore Gateway is a cluster of communities that values consistency, connection, and opportunity.
